Sermon Title: Faithful by Encouragement
Date Preached: 2/12/17
Sermon Text: Colossians 2:1-5
There is joy when we hear of people walking in the truth, faithfully serving the Lord and growing in Him. On the other hand there is sadness, grief when one strays, stumbles, and turns away from the truth.
In between the joy and the grief are the prayers, the concerns and the encouragements to be faithful. We encourage one another to faithfulness that we may know the joy and be spared the grief.
Our text today is specifically about this, seeking to encourage the followers of Jesus so that they will bring joy, not a grief. Of course their faithfulness is not just about our being able to rejoice, it is about seeking what pleases God and brings Him glory, desiring faithfulness is what is good for them.
Giving and receiving encouragement are related. If you want
to encourage others, there are some specific things we can do to be
an encouragement. When we know that our faithfulness and failures
cause joy and grief for others, it can be an encouragement for us to
be steadfast in our faith.
