John Newton, the man who gave us the hymn Amazing Grace is quoted as saying “Although my memory's fading, I remember two things very clearly: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.” Formerly a captain of a ship for the African slave trade whose attitude toward God earned him the name “The Great Blasphemer,” Newton's life was transformed when he came to know God. He eventually became a minister.
Exodus 5:2 says, "But Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and besides, I will not let Israel go.”
We will look at three words today in this verse. They
are simple words – Know, obey, will. But they are words that are at
the heart of God's desire that we know Him, love Him and obey Him.
