Jesus or the World; Your Choice

Is it possible that sometimes pleasing people is more important to us than pleasing God?  Peter tells us that being chosen by God means we can expect to be rejected by the world. We are faithful when we value being chosen by God more than what the world has to offer us.  A contemporary song says:
...Take this world and give me Jesus.
This is not where I belong....
All I know is I'm not home yet.
This is not where I belong.
Take this World and give me Jesus. This is not where I belong.
